Abstract

The research explores the urban style as a witness to the city's memory and its cultural heritage and an expression of the cultural, civilized and social values in the city. Or the sudden change in the formed images, rather it is a language that bears basic rules and a model of relationships and elements with different temporal affiliation and an interpretation of architectural movements with different cultural origins, and the city of Baghdad includes historical styles that date back to different periods that together form the city’s heritage and artistic history, but the basic problem that The historical center of the city suffers from it within its axes and paths, which is the sudden change of visual images within the historical axis and the emergence of different models between one axis and another. This plurality negatively affected the urban landscape in particular and the city landscape in general. Hence, the research problem emerged (disruption of the relationship between the styles that make up the urban landscape within the historical axes and the emergence of sudden visual images). Therefore, the research will focus on the role of urban styles in shaping the scenes of the historical axes, in order to determine how and the reasons for the discontinuity in the style as a result of unstudied interventions and additions that lead to the emergence of sudden visual images, which causes a state of discontinuity in the visual sequence of the scene, and the research will shed light on Al-Rashid Street being the axis The important historical center of the city of Baghdad, with its clear personality and clear style, transmitted over time, but its visual scenes began to be subject to interruption and separation as a result of interventions, which made many of its parts separate from the urban context and style around it, which made them separate and independent entities. Therefore, the aim of the research is to determine the cases and causes of discontinuity in the styles of the urban landscape and the extent of the impact of different visual images in that discontinuity. One of the recommendations and conclusions in defining the relationship between style and historical buildings and how to control interruptions and spatially adapt new additions with the urban landscape of the region in general and achieve harmony and connection of visual images of the general urban landscape.
