This research examines the phenomenon of violent extremism as a serious threat to both national and international security. It highlights how this issue is addressed through criminal law at the domestic and global levels .
At the domestic level, the study explores the legal tools used to criminalize violent extremism within national legislation, such as anti-terrorism laws, incitement, and the financing of extremist groups. It also focuses on the challenges related to proving criminal intent and maintaining a balance between security and human rights .
At the international level, the research reviews the efforts of the international community—particularly UN Security Council resolutions and the United Nations’ plans to prevent extremism. It points out the absence of a unified definition of violent extremism in international law, which complicates the coordination of legal efforts
The study concludes with a set of recommendations, most notably: enhancing international cooperation, establishing a clear and precise definition of violent extremism, and integrating intellectual, social, and legal approaches to address this phenomenon in a comprehensive manner.
